Brutosaur Mount Progress #1

With the upcoming release and retirement of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur, I have the urge/requirement to farm for two of them.

Currently I have around 1.8million gold on my account and around 500k on the wife’s account. Putting me around 2.3m into a 10m goal. Still a long way to go that’s for sure.

Some of the activities I have been doing to generate gold include:

  • Emissary caches on as many toons as I can bear for the paragon caches
  • Rustbolt for paragon caches
  • Nazjatar for benthic items to disenchant/craft enchants
  • Tempting fate with Silas and Flask production
  • Crafting ilvl 400 uncanny gear across multiple professions after scrapping so many wrist items
  • Watching so many YouTube videos on how to make gold, only to realise I should have started farming earlier.

A lot of work to go, but a constant goal for the foreseeable future!

Black Desert Online – Crafting

Black Desert Online is still pretty fun now that I’m into my 3rd week.  Seems like a learn something new in the game every day.   Mainly what I’m learning is that it seems like one big crafting game.  Sure there’s combat and the world is really well drawn, I was impressed just yesterday when I was climbing over a rock and noticed the details of lichen moss growing on the rock.   The graphics in this game are certainly a far cry from the early days in gaming.

 

Crafting –

In Black Desert Online there is so much of it that one could easily forget that combat exists other than to complete quests that allow you to get more storage space for more crafting materials.    All of the professions are available to you at the beginning of the game and through standard questing the game introduces each in turn.   Cooking & Alchemy, Fishing, Blacksmithing, Farming, Gathering, Mining, and I’m sure I’m forgetting something here.    The Temptation is to just go buy  1000 of some material and just level up a skill all at once, but that would be impossible, you would never have the energy for it.

Black Desert Online is popular this week
Just came out – or rather was released for the public outside of Korea.

In this post I intend to cover some of the Basic Info for Black Desert Online.  But these are some starting points.

  • Korean MMO
  • Does have a pay store – but only for cosmetic items, no weapons or spiffy armor.
  • No Subscription Fee – Buy the game, then play for free.
  • Many (English) voiced NPC’s and Quest Givers, but the subtitles don’t always match up.
  • You don’t need uber-leet computer hardware to run the game.
Black Desert Online – Getting started

Choose a class. So far the Black Desert Online devs have not released all of the character classes and choices that are going to be available “eventually”. Further limiting factor here is that your Class determines your character sex & age. The warrior is a 30-year-old Male, the Ranger is a 24-year-old Woman. Wizard is an old man but Witch is a young lady. All of these are human. So no Elfish Dwarf Troll things. Sorry guys, you have to be human. The Barbarian seems to be a minor exception. Still human but a bit tall. “Giant” is too strong a term, just big and beefy.
The NPC’s are full of racial variety up to a point. Every little girl in town has mouse ears, every single one. The goblins are the slave race. Sure you can fight them from time to time, but countless can be found in town eeking out a meager slave living. Oh please don’t beat me! There is also a weasel race, shrewd businessmen all. How many of these different species/races will become playable in the future has not been determined.

Heroic Auchindoun Guardian Druid Run

When I get some spare time I try to run for satchels using Looking For Group (LFG), these satchels give a large amount of gold as well as baleful tokens. First up was a run of Auchindoun on my Druid.

All you have to do is fill a particular role that is in short supply. Commonly this is either Tank or Heals, but sometimes DPS is nominated.

Playing as a Guardian Druid with thrash spam is both lazy and easy, and because I out gear heroics quite easily, the run is never going to fail.

This is a first up recording of the run, hopefully it is interesting to someone! It is also my first YouTube video upload, so hopefully it is reasonable quality as well.

Samsung U28E850R Monitors

I’ve been toying around with buying new monitors for a while now, eBay and a pretty good price on Samsung U28E850R (U28E85KRS) monitors tipped me over. 4k, 1ms, 28″ and all sorts of little features made this hard to pass up.

The monitors are great, fit on my existing monitor arms, even though the monitor arms say only 24″. Very clear picture, great packaging and cables (yay for displayport cable). They did come with 100% brightness by default, so you get blinded first use.

4k is easy to read (in my opinion) at this screen size, yes everything is small and some programs obviously do not scale well with the extra resolution. Being able to tile four 1080p programs on the one monitor is just amazing, thank you windows 10.

To set the scene, my computers aren’t great, old CPU’s and GTX770 and GTX970 videos cards, but they seem to hold up well for 4k in World Of Warcraft. Yes they aren’t going to be winning any performance/FPS contests. But everything seems playable, so far.
